author David Sedaris, on undecided voters…

Posted by: The Russian   in Humor, Politics

“I look at these people and can’t quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention? To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.”

Hayden’s letting herself go…

Posted by: The Russian   in Entertainment, Humor, Politics

one of the less funny celeb endorsement spoofs i’ve seen. i don’t know what it is, but it seems Hayden does a way better job @ being a mutant cheerleader with special powers than this attempt at political comedy. and is it me, or has she put on a couple since she was running around in that cheerleader outfit in season 2?

SNL’s really coming back with some force right now. i haven’t watched much of what’s going on over there for a while but it seems they’re hitting it out of the park with this stuff.

Homer gets 0wned in voting booth.

Posted by: The Russian   in Entertainment, Humor, Politics

i’ve been racking a couple things around the good ole noggin’ the past couple days in terms of the bailout, the upcoming vp debate, as well as Obama’s & McCain’s participation as candidates and as senators in terms of all that’s going on right now. when everything settles like a thick sediment on the bottom of the turkish coffee that is currently my brain, i’ll write a big one, but until then, i’m off to watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report and entertain my buddy’s wife who’s staying the night before she takes off @ 4am for LAX.

oh yeah. the senate passed the bailout 74-25. i’ll cover this one tomorrow because i’m still pretty sure we’re all going to regret this later.

economy and CNN both cracking up…

Posted by: The Russian   in Economy, Entertainment, Humor

obviously for different reasons. at the time of this posting, here’s the breakdown:

Dow 10,365.45 -777.68 (-6.98%)
Nasdaq 1,983.73 -199.61 (-9.14%)
S&P 500 1,106.42 -106.59 (-8.79%)

Edward Wyatt’s got a great piece in the New York Times, Managing the Bailout: He’d Do It for Nothing, talking to William H. Gross about what else could be done with this $700 billion bailout. Gross is the manager of PIMCo (Pacific Investment Management Company) which has a STAGGERING $830 billion under management. their minimum investment is something along the lines of $250 million. basically when Coca-Cola and let’s say Venezuela want to invest their money, the go talk to PIMCo. Shawn’s dad, Charles, works for them, and i’ve heard nothing but great things about the company and the amount of brilliant people who work there.

on the more humorous side of things in regards to the economy, there’s a Vanity Fair article by Julian Sancton, “How Much is $700 Billion Really Worth?“, trying to put a real world feel on how much $700 billion really is in terms of every day things. and some not so every day.

then there’s this. Wolf and John on CNN late edition talking about the SNL sketch by Tine Fey and Amy Poehler’s take on the Palin / Couric interview.

SNL does Palin/Couric interview.

Posted by: The Russian   in Entertainment, Humor, Politics

the fine people over at SNL have done it yet again with Fey and Poehler spoofing the Palin and Couric interview from earlier this week. hats off to Fey for doing such an uncanny job of embodying Palin in every way possible.

came across this little gem while browsing today…watch out Alaska. Putin’s comin’ to get ya!
